Knee Deep
I hiked through the woods at sunset, following the deer-worn paths through the snow. As I ducked around brunches and schlepped over hills, I followed the light in search of something to photograph.
Today, I wanted to document a scene that had depth. I couldn't find a foreground object I liked enough to signal depth in the scene, so I ended up using the sunlight to emphasize depth through contrast cues and shadows.
I eventually reached a small clearing I quite liked and decided a vertical composition that included the full height of the tree near the middle of the clearing would serve this scene best. To achieve this, I created an HDR panorama out of 16 images.
I shot the scene for several more minutes, but when I looked at everything on the computer, it turned out my first attempt ended up bolstering the strongest image. After some light touchups, this was the final result.
