No Place Like It

In the daylight, Woolery Mill is a genuinely compelling structure. Cavernously vast, deeply layered, and richly textured, it really is quite impressive. Even the BLOOMINGTON sign within shines a bright white and boasts a cheery blue G. But once night falls, the scene is cast in a much more unsettling light. This grim mood is what I was met with when I arrived there this evening, and so I decided to inject that unease into my images by capturing the scene in black and white. What got me was the irony of it all: a place proudly naming and celebrating itself while hanging, kind of pathetically, inside its own hollow industrial shell.
